Lazio
Review:
As I loaded up my first tournament using Lazio
I must confess, my hopes were not all too high. After
witnessing their fall from grace after the Eriksson era and
looking at there huge debt problem I had expectations of a
very broken up and slow to move side. Thankfully minuets into
the first game I found out that I had been wrong after all and
instead what became apparent was the teams exploitation of the
wings and the ability to blend the midfield wide players with
the attacks. Lazio play a very wing orientated system,
something that was passed down from Eriksson to mancini and
the wide players although aging provide the strength in the
team. Stam is left on the bench at the team selection screen
but his defending is top class and it is just his lack of importance,
not ability, what stops him from earning the star player card.
The defence is pretty tight but its speed can be exploited and
my confidence is the left and right backs are sorely diminished.
Mihilovic is too slow and too rough for the position but his
free kick ability saves him and for this reason he deserves a
place in the team. Conciecou provides exactly what a wide
player should be and he'll run all day for you on that left
side, beating players and delivering in for the front two.
Fiore unfortunately is a let down again and I never feel that
his stats or the way he plays truly reflects his real life
counterpart. However he can pass and has strength to bomb up
and down that right wing. Then we come to the jewels of the
team, the recently injured Claudio Lopez and the injury prone
Chieza, both thankfully available to play in pro evolution. My
only critisizm of the front two is a lack of ariel presence
and the fact that although playing as strikers, they feel more
like wingers. Chieza is better finisher of the two, whilst
Lopez is best used attacking defenders. Both however provide a
handful to any defence, and there speed and tactical running
will trouble most defences. The keepers seem to be very temperamental
and so but if you prefer better saves stick with peruzzi, for
better control of the ball use ex ipswich ace Sereni.

Conclusion:
Lazio is the team for the player that likes to
hassle from the wing and really open up people with dribbling
and sharp passing. The midfield does enough to act as a bridge
for going forward but the strength in the team lies with the
quartet up front and they will be responsible for whether you
win or lose matches. The lack of height is a shame for such a
wing orientated team but low crosses will be met by the speed
and reactions of the front two. Lazio are a great team for
players who love dribbling ability and with Stam acting as the
strength of the back line the team will always be able to go
forward. The problem lies with both putting away the chances
and with not conceding, as neither striker is particularly
clinical and the back line fall asleep way to much. However
for glamour over team strength and stability you could go a
lot worth. When Lazio shine they really tend to dazzle and
after one of those moves pay off, you'll find yourself
forgetting about the lapses in concentration which led to you
being behind in the first place.
